I am a rosemaling artist – a rosemaler – living and working in Etne on the west coast of Norway. My journey began with studies in traditional weaving and embroidery at the Husflid School in Stord, followed by learning rosemaling from Bergliot Lunde in Sand, Ryfylke from 1976-1977. I returned to my birthplace in Etne, where I established a studio painting original pieces and doing restoration work. I work in the Rogaland and Telemark styles of rosemaling.
In 2004, I worked on the restoration and renovation of the rosemaling decorations in Sandeid Church, followed by a similar job in 2005 at Vats Church.
By applying the glazing technique used in restoration to new works, I came to develop my own style of rosemaling. My technique uses the traditional patterns and brush strokes but incorporates the texture and colour of the underlying material. I enjoy creating new designs and decorating on nontraditional forms, but remain respectful of tradition. I work especially to achieve harmonious colouring, and love the small details – including script/caligraphy.

My work was featured in the book «Rosemaling» by Lars Stana (Cappelen 2004). I enjoy teaching the craft, and hold classes in both tradition rosemaling and in the turid original style.
