These «bark edge» or «natural edge» bowls are cut out of tree trunks with the bark kept intact rather than cut away. They make a great foundation for rosemaling, challenging the artist to adapt and invent with the bowls» twists and turns.
These are some of the bark edge bowls I have painted in the Turid Original style. I use bowls made from several different trees, though most often birch and fruit trees.
