My «new style» or «Turid original» style is inspired by the Telemark style – though it is simplified, and uses more subtle colours. Instead of thick paint, I use layers of semi-transparent glaze – up to 8 layers on the darkest ares.
Each product is decorated according to the natural properties of its material. The shape of the wood, tree rings, bark and similar all become part of the decoration. For this reason, items painted in this style lend themselves poorly to mass production – each «Turid Original» item is as unique as the wood it is made from.
The «Turid original» style was invented after I had worked on restoration of rosemaling antiques, and used glazing for the restoration of church decorations. Such restoration work requires the artist to paint with rather than on top of the underlying original work.
